Professional associations are a great way to connect for potential job opportunities.

They are also a fantastic means of keeping yourself up-to-date technically and professionally in your industry. I've noted in my blog for CIO Magazine that today's job market demands that individuals be able to deliver immediate results first and foremost. That requires us to stay on top of new events, technologies, business transactions, and more in the industry and with the firms we are targeting.

Professional associations help us to accomplish that, and, it keeps us in circulation with potential hiring managers.

As a side benefit, they can often times provide discounts on training, if you need to enhance your skills.

Professional associations are really a key part of any successful job search or long term career development.

It is one of my 4 favorite tips on networking that I share in my blog.

I would suggest membership in more than one actually.
